The educational support plan promotes a full and comprehensive education to meet the educational needs of children with cancer, in the period of treatment and referral, with the development of programs that guarantee, stimulate and empower the teaching process. Learning, in the different stages of the child's development, in the different phases of the disease and in the evaluation of the educational needs.
Support program in educational care for oncological children in treatment.
Main goal: provide specific educational support to the needs of oncological children in the short and long term, and who require reinforcement and specific pedagogical attention.
This will be carried out through the following areas of action:
The educational reinforcement is carried out at home level and / or at the headquarters of Pequeño Valiente in those subjects in which they have difficulties in the acquisition of contents.
There is a need for continuity in the educational support after the school reintegration of the child, since it is at long term when learning difficulties are detected and cognitive alterations are presented that hinder their progress and overcoming objectives. It is important and necessary to provide educational reinforcement a posteriori.
In the educational stages after the school reincorporation, some cognitive alterations can be manifested. The educational intervention, in the face of these cognitive difficulties of learning, will be carried out in collaboration with the association's neuropsychologist, who will carry out a specific evaluation to report the difficulties the child presents and thus be able to intervene in collaboration.
Pedagogical attention in educational centers: training and advice:
Support, advise and guide all those educational centers, in which an oncological student attends; as well as advisig centers in wich the sitution doe not exist yet.
In the centers where there is a sick student, the intervention is offered and the teachers and students are given training and specific didactic sessions addressed to the teaching staff of the center, with sensitisation talks to the students; with counseling and pedagogical attention in all phases of the disease: treatment, school reintegration a posteriori . (In some cases they can be done through other means of communication).
In centers where there is no oncological student, information, lectures and colloquiums adapted to each educational level are provided, which provide an approach and understanding of childhood cancer and the disease process in children and adolescents.
Orientation and educational attention to families:
The involvement and coordination of parents, medical-health team, hospital classroom, educational center, home school teacher and professional teacher, favours a more productive learning and the prevention of possible learning difficulties.
The parents are supported and oriented on the educational needs that the minor requires in each one of the phases of the illness and later. In the phase of the disease and treatment all the attention and information necessary for an improvement in the educational continuity of the child during the treatment and the lack of school attendance is provided. Parents are advised, cared for and informed of the educational and evolutionary processes required by each school stage, while coordinating with all the educational centers of the children, facilitating a follow-up of the educational evolution of the child.
Parents are accompanied to meetings with the teaching staff, they are involved in home school care programs and in the reinforcement program, among other actions.
All the necessary educational information is provided and transmitted to the parents, they are provided with techniques, methods and learning strategies to work with their child and to obtain improvement and educational performance of the child.
